In the opening game of the season, a 2-1 away defeat at Newcastle, after the game he sat down and waited to be taken off. A knee injury that proved to be serious resulting in an 8 month lay-off. However things did not get better. Building up fitness in Under 21 games he suffered a thigh strain with just 6 games of the Premier League season remaining. That was his season over, it had consisted of one game.
Now Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has revealed some great news for Spurs fans over not just Younes Kaboul but Sandro as well, whose last appearance was in January.
But both players will be fit for the start of the new season Villas-Boas believes. Kaboul played 45 minutes behind closed doors against Brentford with fingers crossed that he didn't have a reaction. There had been rumours that his knee may be an ongoing problem and so overcoming his first game time test was an important fitness test.
Kaboul along with Sandro were named in the squad for the Barclays Asia Trophy in Hong Kong next week. He has come through double training sessions and now 45 minutes game time, next a friendly. He is not out of the woods yet as thigh strains are common when players have been out a while so it's still fingers crossed.
August 18 is the target, the opening game of the upcoming season against new boys Crystal Palace.
Villas-Boas said: "It's a very good start to pre-season for both players.
"It's great for Younes after a year out to come back to training and have double sessions with no problems.
"Sandro hit six months last week (since he got injured) and we are on plan, he's made an excellent recovery and we're very happy with him.
"One more week and he'll join the group and he will also join us for full training in Hong Kong."
