Do you give Friedel a game?
Rose or Naughton?
Should Kaboul or Vertonghen start?
Should Sandro and Capoue start?
Do you pick a near 1st XI to help them gel quickly?
Soldado or Defoe?
The objective is to win the tie over two legs. Defeat away must be avoided and a win gained if possible. Scoring away is another consideration if the game is a draw. What will AVB do?
To try and help answer that I thought I'd look back at last years opening Europa League game, however we didn't play a qualifier we went straight into a league game against Lazio, which we drew 0-0. The team on that occasion was:
Lloris, Walker, Caulker, Vertonghen, Naughton, Sandro, Dembele, Lennon, Dempsey, Bale, Defoe.
Subs used were; Sigurdsson for Dembele after 76 minutes, Townsend for Lennon after 81 minutes and Mason for Dembele after 89 minutes.
Can we draw any conclusions from that, well he played a strong side, we had centre-backs to rotate and gave Naughton a game. Also at the time Friedel was the league goalkeeper while Lloris found his feet, does this suggest Friedel will get game time or will play with the result a priority?
To start my wild guess eleven I'm this time plumping for Lloris between the sticks.
Walker picks himself with Dawson alongside him for his leadership and experience.
I'm going for Vertonghen to start with Kaboul coming on as a sub and Rose at left-back.
Midfield is tough, so many options. Paulinho, Capoue, with Sandro coming on as a sub.
Lennon, Sigurdsson, Soldado, Chadli with Defoe coming on as sub.
Lloris
Walker Dawson (Capt) Vertonghen Rose
Paulinho Capoue
Lennon Sigurdsson Chadli
Soldado
