Don't we all wish it was that easy? How can you equate, what in effect is up till now, our biggest game of the season?
How can you predict the outcome against a team that really has nothing to lose, especially since their relegation was cemented only yesterday? We all know what happens when you corner an injured dog? You pat it on its head and take it to the vet. Maybe, just maybe, we can take Portsmouth the cleaners, via the vet?
Let's put things into perspective; they are a side that has struggled to compete with most sides this season. Their team will be without some of their best performers, Jamie O'Hara, Hermann Hreidarsson, etc. So we just have to turn up and win.
Oh if only it was that simple.
I was at Elland Road in 1995, where we faced an Everton team that wasn't too far off Portsmouth's current predicament, although they did have Andy Hinchcliffe and his notorious free-kicks and corners. We had Klinsmann, Sheringham and were still spinning after winning up at Anfield in the Quart-Final. Goals from Jurgen and Teddy saw to that. We were going to win; all we had to do was turn up.
F.A. Cup Semi-Final - Everton 4-1 Spurs
A certain Daniel Owefin Amokachi took us apart that day. It was the first time I had cried at a football match. It was terrible.
We are packing up now for Wembley. Both Sarah and I will be there. Jaymes is off in Cyprus, and will be watching the game with the Official Spurs Supporters Club in Nicosia. He's asked me to inform any in Cyprus that there will be a BBQ in Murphy's at 4pm and all are welcome.
Squeaky bum time? Let's hope not.
Our Prediction: Spurs 4-1 Portsmouth
PS. Damn you Amokachi.
