Stamford Bridge is no longer the fortress it once was – Liverpool and Arsenal both won there last season – and the players have the confidence of knowing they took four points from Chelsea last term.
The key is to stay on the attack. Three of Chelsea’s five league wins so far have come from losing positions. Hull City, Sunderland and Stoke City all took surprise leads against Carlo Ancelotti’s men and didn’t know what to do with it, reverting too deep into their game plan of containment.
Spurs have the quality and style of football to press for more goals if we do find ourselves in front and with goals no problem this season, it should not come as a major shock if we do start well again.
Things have been less sure at the back and any hopes of playing an expansive game at Chelsea rely on having a steady foundation that has been elusive so far. If reaching the top four in the Premier League is a realistic ambition, then clean sheets need to arrive. Sunday would be the best time to start.
Nonetheless, the team should not be too preoccupied with defence, as starting any game with the ambition of a point is a dangerous plan. The return to fitness of Jermaine Jenas is welcome, as he can do a screening job in front of the back four that Wilson Palacios has been so good at.
Peter Crouch will be utilised to occupy the opposing defence and the pace of Aaron Lennon could prove vital against Ashley Cole, who he likes coming up against. It will not be easy, but let’s give it a go at the Bridge, go against the Premiership betting odds and take the game to Chelsea.
